Team Introductions

Post by whiz wit » Tue Sep 20, 2022 6:51 pm

Well, as long as nothing else of interest is going on, here's another earth shattering issue for you all to ponder. I would like for the announcer at LU home duals to include a wrestler's home town when he's introduced. I find that information interesting and I would think that the wrestler and those in his home town would enjoy the recognition. What do we get instead? An announcement of SOME of the wrestlers' majors. Is that selectivity intentional? Is the guy only announcing those majors that he thinks are impressive? Where does that leave the wrestlers whose majors aren't announced? Fans think they're gutting it? I think it's unusual to announce majors but if you're going to do it it should be all or nothing. But much better, I think, to scrap the majors and announce home towns.

Agree with whiz

Especially with 6 different states projected starting

That’s fairly unique

Idea is a good one whiz. Wonder if they've considered it?

Only 6? I would have guessed 7. If I may read the tea leaves, that suggests to me that we'll be seeing a Pa kid (Lawrence?) at 165 or 174.

Concur. First, get better speakers at Grace. Wrestler hometown, state and collegiate career record would be a welcome addition.

Excuse me, but Denny hasn't revealed the starting line-up?
Lane
Crookham
Hines
Bryant
Humphreys
Meyer
Logan
Samuelson
Beard
Taylor

Since Denny doesn't make predictions, this must be the consensus from the staff, no?

I usually have my head set on but don't we do towns during the prematch and majors when they go out to the mat?
And haven't we done that since I was doing them almost 20 years ago?

It's in the match notes. Here's an example from the Oklahoma State dual last year.
https://lehighsports.com/documents/2022 ... df?id=6150

Lehigh starters (and hometown) on page 1
Oklahoma State projected starters (and hometown) are shown on page 4.

Agree about announcing degree program. I see no need to announce that for each wrestler.

There are 6 reasonable permutations of Pa at 125-133-285
Lane Crookham Taylor
Lane-Crookham-Garcia

Seymour-Crookham-Taylor
Seymour-Crookham-Garcia

Seymour-Lane-Taylor
Seymour-Lane-Garcia
------------
There were years where we could have had a reasonable lineup with 10 guys from 10 states, none from Pa or NJ
And Years where we could have a reasonable line-up with everyone PA-NJ
