Sunday Morning Coming Down

Post by FloridaGuy » Sun Feb 12, 2023 10:05 am

>>>>>>>>Dual season ends at 9-9.

Highlight: Beard beating Dean in front of a full house.

Lowlight: Meyer contracting mono which ended his season and impacted Humphreys who was at 165 when he was injured in New Orleans.

Plenty of lower weight options for next year and strength at the top two weights. How the middle weights shake out will be the key.

Current focus is EIWA decisions at 149-165-174.

My thinking is to go with guys who experienced success at the EIWAs in prior years.

Brigs and Burkhart were 3rd last yr at 149 & 184, Frinzi was 4th at 157 two years ago.

If those guys could replicate their performances this year, the EIWAs would become, in the words of the old Laugh-In character: Very Interesting.

Great suggestions for EIWA lineup. Frinzi has definitely matured with nice showing against Monday last night

Hope we get more District 11 studs to compliment Crookham & capitalize on our location. This would build a local fan base in the Premier Pa high school wrestling district since young alumni & students could care less about our national legacy in this sport.

IMO, Florida Guy has captured the prevailing view of most fans.

The second part of that famous Arte Johnson Laugh-In quip: ......... "but not funny."

I remember it as
“But shtoopid” though Oracle is probably right.

Edit - just looked it up. We’re both right :)

I’ve seen it a few times that Humphreys was injured when he wrestled up a weight. Just want to point out that the guy he wrestled was a 157 at the time, wrestling up a weight to fill in for their regular 165.

In his career- he only wrestled 157.

>>>>>>>>>It’s really the chain of events I was focused on——-not so much the 165 weight as I would think Humphreys works out with higher weight guys in the wrestling room

A wrestler can get injured in any match, it was the quirk of Meyer being out that put Humphreys in that particular match.

Right, sorry. To clarify I meant I have read on this board a couple of times the fact that Humphreys was injured when he went up a weight in that specific match.

I just wanted to point out the guy he wrestled was also 157 at the time.

Both Humphreys and Bryant went up a weight in that match. Both of their opponents also went up a weight.

Yes, although appears to be more than just Meyer being out, as Frinzi had already filled in at 165 the two matches prior to that Ohio State match.

For the younger folks, I think you need to build it first (winning) before they will come.
