Seymour was schedule to take part in 2020 vs Miller(UPenn). However the event was canceled due to COVID.

Likely impact on BECA and NDGP. Maybe we will see "NILs" starting at the high school level.
NIL are already happening at the high school level. PA approved them early this year.

>>>>>>>> NIL is reality

Yes it’s new and evolving, but ignoring it will only hurt Lehigh’s recruiting/retaining wrestling talent.

Not giving $75k SUVs to seniors or $8-10k/yr cash above full rides will hurt our recruiting, too.

Supposedly Fix received the SUV. Have no knowledge of that. However, I did hear from several Iowa people close to their program while at the NCAA's, that Real Woods received $230,000 to move from Stanford to Iowa. Again, zero personal knowledge of this, but it was stated as if it was a well known fact. Assuming it was some sort of NIL that was worked out from alumni, which really wasn't the intent of the NIL.
The NCAA has a real problem on their hands.

Almost all NIL funding is driven by deep pocket alumni, not the university or even athletic department. The most high profile is scrap metal dealer in Syracuse who verbally has committed millions to the endeavor to resurrect Syracuse Basketball program.

It is what it is until NCAA or courts rule otherwise. Is it worth it for wrestling? Or is it just a big revenue sports where economic can return may be achieved with more seats in the stands at higher prices. The reality is most sports programs cannot be monetized for self-sustainability.

Personally, if we want to pay coaches or provide economic benefit under NIL and promote certain athletes, so be it. However, it should not be funded with institutional money for education. It must and should only come from those who individual want to support an NIL fund.

Should Lehigh or any institution be engaging in purchasing success in athletics? There is a fine line in credibility as an academic institution when you go down this road.

I am a classical liberalist so let see if there is a market for Lehigh alumni to actual fund individual athlete NIL. I suspect there is not and the amount for any athlete will be minimal. A better pathway is give an athlete a world class education and opportunity to be a National Champion and then hire him.

It worked for Mike Caruso and others. The individual relationships of alumni and students is what ultimately matters for the long-term. There is more to be gained by education and mentorship, than immediate satisfaction of desires.
