LOVE LETTERS IN THE SAND
Re: LOVE LETTERS IN THE SAND
So in essence Mike, and Joe each wrestled Steenllage TWICE, with each of them splitting those two bouts.
How is it that in 1966 Bob is 2nd in the Easterns at 130, and then is allowed to DROP to 123 for the Nationals? Thought you had to wrestle Nationals at the weight you qualified at via Easterns,.. but obviously this was NOT the case.
Re: LOVE LETTERS IN THE SAND
Nope. That didn't start until 1971 with the Regional qualifying tournaments. Lehigh was the unofficial team champ at the Princeton Regional. I think we had 4 in the finals, 2 champs, 6-7 total placers. That was the tournament where Schalles decked Frantz in the 1st period.
Being able to drop for Nationals was a thing. Pendleton dropped from 157 to 147 and lost to Army's Natvig who he had beaten soundly up at 157. There was no qualification system in place.....all divisions (2 and 3) could enter guys as well. I miss that.

Hell,..I was there for that! I do have moments of clarity, as Dementia tries to ankle-pick me.Oracle wrote: ↑Thu Nov 09, 2023 4:36 pm Nope. Believe this was Lehigh's Steve Shield's only WIN against Penn State's Andy Matter.
Also believe Schalles bout with heralded Frantz is the bout that put Wade on everyone's radar!
P.S.,..thought Pendleton was smarter than THAT!

And he called it ahead of time.
In 1962, Phil Kinyon was second at 157. Kinyon beat Kirk in the finals the year before.
Re: LOVE LETTERS IN THE SAND
There was a lot of that in the 60s. Tie up for a few seconds, break away, back off, shake your arms, circle, back in.mookie wrote: ↑Thu Nov 09, 2023 5:51 pm Dance contest.

When DRD wrote Mat Power over 25 years ago we did a lot of stats (Geek Stats we called them). Scoring by era was one. That era didn't fare too well.

I laugh when "old timers" complain about stalling today.
Re: LOVE LETTERS IN THE SAND
A 9-minute match -- you don't go full-tilt. Used to be a 5-1 score was a decisive win.
Re: LOVE LETTERS IN THE SAND
Met and spoke briefly with COLIN KILRAIN prior to NAVY match were he was honored, and rightfully so. Thanked him for his years of service, and after shaking his HAND, walking away,..had to ponder just how many times his finger may have pulled the trigger in clandestine operations over-seas!
This was an exceptional HOF speech, and can tell by the emotion in Coach Thad Turner's voice how proud/enamored he was with this individual. Soo well deserved..
Snap-shots, along w/ACTION video are excellent..
