Week-End Salvo

Gentlemen (and some Ladies):

We're getting closer and closer. "Wait 'till next year" is almost upon us.

whiz wit came through with some great intel when he stated Nick Kunstek was headed to Ohio State before it was announced. Nice job. FLO was slow to remove Kunstek from Lehigh's column and someone else thought it was going to be VA Tech.

As for 'who's an elite recruit' and who's not, well, that's always in the eye of the beholder and should not be viewed as criticism. Someone put the number of "elite" at 25 per year. IMO, that's pretty accurate. Otherwise, elite gets watered down. Elite is a game changer for a program, any program. There are a ton of guys who are good, very good, and excellent, but 25 who are truly elite. The problem is: we don't know until after they have competed if they were actually elite. Facundo from Michigan was can't miss elite, except when he got to PSU, he wasn't, or hasn't been so far. Any program would love to have him, but his 1st round loss to Holden Heller and subsequent 12-2 LMD to Ramirez making him 0-2 elite? Maybe he was cutting too much weight to make the line-up. Doesn't matter because St Cael is bringing in U20 world champ Mesenbrink -- uh, a true elite. Look for Facundo to transfer.

Our discussion regarding Sheldon Seymour is interesting. Everyone loves this kid. He's a hustler, and aggressive. Yes, a 2X PA AA state champ at light weight classes, but college results are average so far. Maybe you could make a case for him being elite (he was top 100 - ranked in the 90s) but that's way below the threshold of 25. So, maybe we can agree he's a work in progress and we have high expectations for him to reach his ceiling of being an AA.

Ryan Crookham was elite (top 25) and his results are limited but pretty decent. This year will tell the tale.

Then there are guys who were definitely not elite coming in but became elite before they left. Robert Hamlin.
BTW, there are many more of these guys then the so-called 'can't miss' guys. Many more.

Have a great weekend everyone!
