Re: Rankings Update: 6-Feb
The Open Mat moved Stanich from 8th to 2nd. The reason why is revealing. Barnett and Flynn, two guys Luke has beaten, had been 9th and 10th; now they're 3rd and 4th. So like a cork rising with the tide, Stanich moved up with them.

Re: Rankings Update: 6-Feb
Wrestlestat has moved Sheldon back to starter, i Guess because he has 15 bouts and Luke only has 14.
If Luke were to Wrestle AzSU only, and Sheldon wrestles and wins the other two, SS likely bumps to 27or better and qualifies the spot. Really though, SS may need only 1 win because pretty likely 4 guys ranked 25-30 lose a bout to someone not great, and get bumped down.
Maybe, to keep everyone on edge, Ethan Smith wrestles vs Bucknell.

Re: Rankings Update: 6-Feb
that's a big no, one per team at each weight class if qualify
Re: Rankings Update: 6-Feb
Thanks...so basically a kid like Seymour irrespective of his success/ranking knows no matter what should Luke be healthy has no chance of being in tourney...ouch. Credit to him i guess ..

Re: Rankings Update: 6-Feb
yeah, doesn't always seem fair but that's wrestling.....even at the high school level in NY only one kid per weight per team can try to qualify for states......so if a team has the number 1 and number 2 kids say at 124 in the whole state one of them has to bump to 131 or cut to 116 to try to qualify
Same reason why McGonagle has been left without a chair at the moment the music stopped this year even though he was ranked 6th in the country at 133 early on...
Re: Rankings Update: 6-Feb
Until about 3-5 years ago in Pa. In an in-season tournament a school could only enter one per weight.

Re: Rankings Update: 6-Feb
Not to mention Spratley (Stanich's lone NCAA loss) had a big win over Noah Surtin who had been ranked #3 iirc. Good pretty good week for Stanich considering he didn't wrestle.
A couple of us have been saying Spratley is most probable as champ this year...
Re: Rankings Update: 6-Feb
Ok stupid question #2.... if only one guy per school per weight can qualify why doesn't a school like Lehigh who has a complete roster returning with multiple elite pieces just inundate their weaker weight class with transfers of high quality backups from schools like Penn St. with the promise of getting that chance to compete in the tourney..they have proof of concept in Beard.
