It was a real issue 15-20 years ago, when the EIWA had 13 or so teams for awhile. Most falls come in the first round and sometimes the contending teams complained about drawing too many byes.

Re: 2025 EIWAs
Is there still possibility of a 12th team added next season? Rider seems most logical. I heard talk at EIWA of the idea of the ACC expanding, for wrestling only, to 10 or 12 teams, including Lehigh, Army, Navy, for ten or possibly Bucknell and American to make 12. Then, again, maybe enough people are upset about the Ivy decision that they decide to scuttle the idea and return?
Re: 2025 EIWAs
I've heard no talk from the coaches or EIWA admins about anything with the ACC. And to add, didn't hear anything much this year about Morgan State (or anyone else) joining. One of the people I worked with, who does a lot with the event scheduling, looked at the 3 mat format (as opposed to the four mat format) and realized that although 11 teams works, 12 probably would be complicated and long. It adds another 20 bouts to the first day which is another hour.ngineer wrote: ↑Sat Mar 30, 2024 11:03 pm Is there still possibility of a 12th team added next season? Rider seems most logical. They already hired refs for 3 mats (not 4) for next year. We (Lehigh) will have 4 mats laid out to use one for warmups but would have to hire additional personnel.
Re: 2025 EIWAs
Very interesting. Wasn't aware of the mat 'issues'. Seems like $$ may be somewhat of a driver in this issue. Something still tells me that there's a chance the Ivy changes their mind. The athletic world is getting stranger and stranger. Thanks.gimpeltf wrote: ↑Sat Mar 30, 2024 11:29 pmI've heard no talk from the coaches or EIWA admins about anything with the ACC. Re: 2025 EIWAs
Idea behind 3 mats was more to open up availability to more schools. Ex- F&M can fit 3 in Mayser gym (Alumni is obviously big enough but there would have to be seats brought in)- we did it there a couple times, 85 with 16 teams and 2008 with 14 teams. I believe 2008 was when they decided they had to use 4 mats. I vaguely remember some of 85 but can't remember how many mats. We might have used 4 but would have had to have gotten rid of the bleachers at the far end and put a mat in that alcove.ngineer wrote: ↑Mon Apr 01, 2024 11:12 pmVery interesting. Re: 2025 EIWAs
EIWA a complete joke without Ivies & Rider adds nothing.
I now know the motive of the Columbia coach that started the campaign to pull out of EIWA. They didn’t have big enough facility to host Easterns so make league tournament 1 day & less mats so Columbia can host.
Hope we never book Columbia again.

Re: 2025 EIWAs
I am still encouraged about EIWA future with Lehigh, Army, Navy and Binghamton, especially if Buffalo drops wrestling. If the 5th/6th teams upgrade, it is still a very competitive qualifier by semi-finals and should still earn 3-4 qualifiers per weight. Overall, I thought a few of the lower level programs improved with F&M and LIU getting an NCAA qualifier. That goes a long way to improve the program at 1-2 weights the following year.
I suspect EIWA could add 1-3 more colleges in the next 2-4 years.

Mercyhurst?

West Virginia is in the Big 12. Their travel budget has to be out of hand. WVU as a school is currently facing a large financial crunch. Joining an Eastern based league would make a lot of sense for them - at least financially.
