One Stop Funding of Lehigh Wrestling options

Post by HFO » Sat Apr 06, 2024 1:47 pm

Check each option whether contribution is tax-deductible or not.

Lehigh University Athletics Partnership - raises money for direct usage of the team. Administered by Lehigh University Athletics Department/Head Coach

Lehigh Wrestling Club. Administered by Board.
The mission of the Lehigh Wrestling Club is to support Lehigh wrestling and promote the fan wrestling experience. The Club schedules activities and events to provide opportunities to interact and socialize with the wrestlers, coaches, students, parents, alumni and other fans. Sponsors Annual Dinner and other events throughout the year.

South Mountain Way. External collective management of athlete NIL opportunities. Non-tax deductible.
South Mountain Way is dedicated to enabling wrestlers to access NIL opportunities through partnerships with corporate brands, in addition to developing wrestlers through non-NIL initiatives such as the innovative Leadership Pact.

Lehigh Valley Wrestling Club - Olympic Regional Training Center. Tax-deductible
The Lehigh Valley Wrestling Club is a 501-C-3 Non Profit organization incorporated in the state of Pennsylvania and recognized by USA Wrestling as an Olympic Regional Training Center Site. Our goal is to become the prime location for athletes who want to pursue World Championship and Olympic teams. Maintains additional coach access for elite wrestlers and resident training athletes that may further the competitiveness of Lehigh wrestling athletes who also train in freestyle in the off-season.

So from small $$$ contributions to large $$$ opportunities, there is a way for every fan of Lehigh wrestling to participate in the success of the team. For some of us, who now restrict $$$ to Lehigh, we have other options that are external to the university such as being a member of the Lehigh Wrestling Club and contributor to Lehigh Valley Wrestling Club, and now the South Mountain Way to direct to specific athletes. For those who want to contribute to Pat's budget directly, then you go the Athletic Partnership path and direct funds to the wrestling program.

For myself, I found that LVWC and having resident athletes goes a long way in developing key weights. Heavy and now 125/133. Hopefully Labriola now can have an impact at 174/184.

Anyway, there is no reason Lehigh cannot be competitive in landing graduate transfers. Give them the additional education and connection to Lehigh along with an opportunity to extend their career for 1 more year. The undergrad transfer is still a rare thing, but for the right athlete with the right GPA it is an option also.

All the pieces are now in place. It is now all about volume of people and growing the fan base. Us old timers will all be gone soon. We need all those grads of the 1980s through 2010s to now become active in the sports support at Lehigh.

Thanks for posting the info. As an 80’s grad I have been very active in supporting the team over the years thank u very much. Maybe you old timers could leave some endowment money for the program.
Also I was under the impression that NIL money was tax deductible but perhaps not. Is South Mountain Way newly established? Who manages that particular entity?

Very nice primer HFO. Yes, there are certainly a number of options people have to support Lehigh Wrestling and I hope all those who frequent this board choose a method with which they are comfortable and give til it feels good!

+100 new members in Lehigh Wrestling Club is an inexpensive Step 1 and then buying seats in the gym is Step 2. Becoming a fan leads to the others if you have deeper pockets. Most importantly is maintaining a +2500 person fan base and getting to matches.

Ther should be a way to "pin" the original post in this thread to the top of the page so that it stays there. Great information and summation.
