Nothing....responding to a previous statement on this wrestling board.

Rich, In addition to being a wrestling fan, you seem to be a historian by nature so I though you might find this article interesting.

Kennedy actually spoke at the Hotel Bethlehem just a few days prior to winning the election and a whole host of other presidential visits to the Lehigh Valley.

I seem to Remember seeing a picture of the IKE Birthday Party in Hershey. I guess it was his 75th. The Floor of the Hershey Park Arena, covered with ordinary Round Dinner Tables, like you might see at a wrestling club dinner.
When Ike did his whistle stop in Jim Thorpe, it was at the old LVRR Station, in old East Mauch Chunk, where the Super Market is now (or where the Markets Parking lot is. The Town had been renamed JT 2 years before. The Thorpe Memorial is about 8-10 blocks away, a quarter of a mile. I doubt if Ike visited. The Legend is that cadet Eisenhower's football career was ended by a Thorpe tackle, although I think that is a slight exaggeration. .

From Wikipedia:
"The 1912 Army Cadets football team was an American football team that represented the United States Military Academy as an independent during the 1912 college football season. Under head coach Ernest Graves, Sr., the Cadets compiled a 5–3 record and outscored opponents by a total of 108 to 59.[1]
Dwight Eisenhower played at left halfback for the team.[2] Eisenhower's college football career ended on November 16 when he sustained a knee injury against Tufts.[3]
On November 9, Army lost by a 27–6 score to a Carlisle team led by Jim Thorpe.[4]"
Eisenhower played the entire game against Carlisle, but left the Tufts game for a replacement. He was class of 1915, so he was just a sophomore in 1912.

For a second, I thought you meant Eichelberger.Richb-3 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 08, 2020 9:18 pm I seem to Remember seeing a picture of the IKE Birthday Party in Hershey. I guess it was his 75th. DDE's wikipedia says he tackled Thorpe but tore his knee up the next game after being tackled.

The Pocono visitors Bureau standard line is rather more entertaining than the Truth. Carbon County version. = Oklahoma said that he was a disgrace, he lost his medals, can't bury him here. His Tribe said the same. Carlisle said the same--Mauch Chunk wanted him- then, after he got his medals back 30 years after his death, Oklahoma and his tribe wanted to bury him in front of a casino
When I have a bus full of employees/trainees I sometimes tell the Oklahoma version of the Story. The Governor Was there, Congressmen and Senators, the Entire legislature, So many people were at Thorpe's pending internment were there, that they relocate the University Oklahoma football Stadium. Then His third wife jumped into the grave and fought to control the body, like a crazed female Laertes.
