2023-2024 Opening night starting lineup
2023-2024 Opening night starting lineup
21 days until opening night, Monday November 4th with Cornell. One of this year's few decent non-league home games.
On paper an exciting freshman class. Will any of them have an early impact? And what kind of lineup starts the year? Here are my thoughts:
G1 Sinclair/Knotsman/Gilus
G2 Whitney-Sidney/Whitlock
G3 Higgins/Ingram
F1 Parolin/Momah/Pike
F2/C Tan/Adiassa
Deep bench: Reed, Chebuhar, Saigal, Coniff
Is this the year somebody finally knocks off the Raiders Of The Shanook Valey?
Your thoughts?

3 starters set in Higgins, TWS and Parolin. I think one of the two freshman could be the 3rd starting guard. In the middle, it’s a crapshoot, big body, 5 fouls.

Lehigh is a 6 point underdog in the opener.

Interesting stretch coming up ...
Looks like they go on the road to #19 UNC -- which will be an amazing experience -- then come home vs. DIII Oneonta State ...
Hopefully some backups get a chance to play in that one.

Kenpom has the game at 77-74 Cornell....... I'm conservatively optimistic.... and expect Frosh contributions. The BIG RED are not huge (2 forwards at 6'9"), but they are an older team with all but one starter back from 22-23.

I'm not sure if this was brought up yet but the Patriot League coaches picked Lehigh as 2nd behind Colgate, giving us 2 first place votes. Higgins and TWS were given pre-season 1st team selections.

Brett has indicated that this year's team is deeper, faster with some good ball handlers, a nod I suspect to the freshmen. Unforced errors have always been our Achilles heel.
Next Wednesday is early signing day. We apparently have 3 commitments with 2 being scholarship players and we are looking for at least 1 more.

Forgot that Cornell beat us by 30 in Ithaca last season. Good revenge spot.

Based on my conversations with Brett, your first choice at each position is spot on.jimk72 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 16, 2023 2:18 pm 21 days until opening night, Monday November 4th with Cornell. One of this year's few decent non-league home games.

Re: 2023-2024 Opening night starting lineup
Had a shot at this one, but 1-12 on three’s and 2 missed lay ups in the 2nd half did us in. The win was there for the taking, but we just went cold offensively in the last six minutes. Also, defense wasn’t great at times. Their big gun 6’9” Sean Hansen went 4 of 5 on uncontested 3’s, and 7-10 overall.
But there were some positive surprises. The biggest was Bube Momah starting. At 6-8 and 240 he made it clear he will not get pushed around underneath, with 10 tough rebounds against a heavy duty Cornell front court. Two freshman saw action (Whitlock & %Ingram) and did well in limited minutes. Also, Dominic Parolin looked much more aggressive than last year with 8 boards and 16 points.
Up next, our annual measuring stick against power conferences. This year, The Nits & Tar Heals first, Friars, and The Eagles later. Here’s hoping we can be competitive.
And a question. Freshman Cam Guliss looked dressed but did not participate in warm ups. Is he hurt?

Good assessment.
My takeaway was this seemed to be the most exciting, athletic and deep team I've seen in years (just 1 game). Turnovers again though is an Achilles heel. Our forte seems to be attacking the basket rather than the long ball but it's early.
Gillus was healthy last Wednesday. I think he have been a casualty of a lot of guard depth and a game that was close throughout.
Just my opinion.
