Still Cloudy
Re: Still Cloudy
Too bad Delaney boogied via the portal after one season with the team, and I don't think anybody picked him up. Seem to remember him showing up unattached for a tournament this season.
He was a full size, strong 125 and had some D 1 experience. A better option for 133 I would think, than throwing who looks to me to be an undersized 125 and a true freshman to the wolves at 133.

Re: Still Cloudy
Lehigh doesn't forfeit a weight given a choice.
Re: Still Cloudy
I suspect that since about 1997 we have not forfeited a home dual, or the first dual in an away streak.
On Toms Wrestling page there was a discussion that Michigan FFT at OhSU, because rules (NCAA? B1G? Michigan said travel teams were restricted to 15. Anyone know if this is correct? I know that was a rule in National Duals

Re: Still Cloudy
We've forfeited in home duals three times since 1997, all at 125: once in 2005, in back-to-back duals in 2015. I couldn't find an instance where we forfeited in the first away dual. Thank you, Jay Hammond!

Re: Still Cloudy
2015. Geo Mason and Brown. last home bouts of the year. Scotty Parker wrestled all the others. Darian Cruz was doing a second year redshirt. there were two other guys listed 125/133
2005 Penn also last home bout. John Stout and Andrew Rizzi had handled the weigh. Interesting, we had 9 neutral meets that year. Two at Pennsylvania Duals at PaSU who we beat in the finals. Five at National duals in ClevelandSU, Maryland At Virginia, and Missouri, at NYAC (i assume). I think there was a third guy rostered at 125.

So in essence,. disperse with the speculation, PAT knows best!
Re: Still Cloudy
Speculation always running rampant here, it's allowed,.. but have to have FAITH in Pat and his Staff!
Re: Still Cloudy
I concur. Look at Penn State wrestlers, so of their elites only have 9 bouts. Russians used to only enter their elite wrestlers in maybe 4-5 tournaments per year. As clearly stated, Stanich shot at 125 is this and only this year. He has held this level of weight while maturing since the 11th grade. He will have a shot to start at 133/141 next year, but has the option to redshirt. He has legit shot at NCAA Finals if all goes right.Dad wrote: ↑Mon Feb 05, 2024 1:56 pm Good analysis Mookie. I only disagree with 2 of your points. Stanich has trouble making 125. There is no reason for him to make weight every weekend. He is the guy. It will be his only shot at 125 as he will move up next year.
Regarding the bubble wrap comment - Ryan has had a consistent issue with injuries. There is no downside to giving him a week off. He wrestled all of the top guys on our schedule this year. He is a legitimate title threat if he is 100%.
Ryan lost his junior year in high school and wrestled limited his senior year of high school. Then redshirt last year for two prong reasons 1) to develop and 2) to get physically healthy. He wrestled a limited schedule last year highlighted by Midlands. Again, another legitimate shot at NCAA Finals if all goes right.
I suspect both of them might not wrestle Bucknell and then both wrestled Princeton.
So next year conceivably there could be 4 Top 12 Lehigh wrestlers who are natural 133lbs, Crookham, Stanich, McGonagle and Hines. One will start, one has option to redshirt and the other two have to battle it out again at 141 with an emerging Carter Bailey nipping at their heels. This is competition and bodes will for someone to truly emerge as an NCAA Champion. When you have to battle like this year round, it builds your confidence that you can win against anyone.
